Why protect matte and satin paintwork?

Matte and satin paint is the hardest finish to put right. It cannot be polished, and body shops struggle to colour and texture match it, so a localised repair is almost always visible. XPEL Stealth creates a durable, self-healing barrier over vulnerable panels and keeps the factory finish uniform.

Stealth works two ways: it protects factory matte paint invisibly, and it converts gloss paint to a smooth satin finish that is fully reversible. Coverage can be tailored from the front bumper or full front end to extended performance areas or the entire vehicle.

Gloss paintwork converted to a satin finish using XPEL Stealth paint protection film

Gloss or satin

Two routes into a satin finish

If your car already wears factory matte or satin paint — BMW Frozen, Mercedes designo magno, Audi and Porsche satin finishes — Stealth protects it invisibly. The film matches the sheen, so the car looks exactly as it left the factory, but stone chips and scuffs hit the film instead of paint that cannot be polished back.

If your car is gloss, the same film converts it to satin — a full conversion starts from £4,000 + VAT. Unlike a respray, the original gloss paint stays protected underneath and the change is fully reversible. Either route can cover the whole car or selected panels, with Gtechniq Halo available as an optional upgrade for greater water repellency and easier maintenance.

“I took my BMW M3 CS to Justin for full PPF. I have proper “car OCD” so Im always keeping them clean and in mint condition. I chose Justin because of the positive feedback given by one of my mates, also a car nut. All I can say is the quality of the work is off-the-scale good. I’ve had PPF fitted before to a brand new M5 a few years ago, and it was a really good job I was very happy with, but this is on a whole new level. It’s almost impossible to see any of the edges, and the overall finish is superb. The attention to detail is amazing.”

How we protect your vehicle

Protection is only as good as the surface beneath it. Every vehicle is inspected and prepared at our studio before protection is applied. Film patterns are computer-cut on site using XPEL DAP rather than cut on the vehicle.

01

Assessment

Paint condition, mileage and how the car is used, so the right level of protection is recommended.

02

Preparation

Safe wash, chemical decontamination and machine polishing where the paint needs it — never more than necessary.

03

Installation

XPEL film is fitted using computer-cut patterns, with edges wrapped and tucked wherever the panel design permits. A PPF-compatible ceramic coating is then applied where selected.

04

Final inspection

The installation is checked under specialist lighting, the film and any coating are allowed to cure, and the vehicle is returned with detailed aftercare guidance.

XPEL Stealth matte PPF FAQs

How much does XPEL Stealth matte PPF cost?

At our Wiltshire studio, XPEL Stealth starts from £500 + VAT for front-bumper coverage, £1,500 + VAT for Full Frontal, £1,900 + VAT for Performance and £3,800 + VAT for Full Car. A full gloss-to-satin conversion starts from £4,000 + VAT. Final pricing depends on vehicle size, model complexity, coverage and film finish.

Which Stealth package is right for my car?

Front Bumper coverage protects the single most vulnerable area. Front End coverage adds the bonnet, front wings, headlights and mirrors. The Performance package extends protection to areas such as the A-pillars, roof edge, side skirts and luggage area. Full Coverage protects all exterior painted panels and suitable carbon-fibre accents. We can also create a bespoke package.

How long does XPEL PPF last?

XPEL Ultimate Plus and XPEL Stealth are backed by a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty. With correct installation and aftercare, the film provides long-term clarity and protection while helping preserve the paint beneath it.

Can PPF be installed on a used car?

Yes. PPF is best suited to brand-new cars or vehicles with relatively low mileage and paintwork in very good condition. As a general guide, once a vehicle has covered more than around 15,000 miles, stone chips across the front end and road rash on lower panels such as the side skirts are usually already present, so PPF may no longer represent a worthwhile investment.

We inspect used vehicles before installation and will advise if the existing paint condition is likely to compromise the finished result. Paint correction can improve swirl marks and light scratches, but existing stone chips and road rash will remain visible unless the affected panels are refinished first.

PPF or ceramic coating: which is better?

They protect against different types of damage. PPF provides a physical barrier against stone chips, scratches and road debris. Ceramic coating improves gloss, water repellency and ease of maintenance but does not provide the same impact protection. For broader protection, PPF can be applied to high-impact areas and ceramic coating added over the film and remaining paintwork.

Can matte paint protection film be applied to any vehicle?

Yes. Matte PPF can be installed on virtually any vehicle, regardless of make or model. Patterns are computer-cut on site with XPEL DAP, so coverage can be adapted to the specific panels on your car. Stealth can also be used to transform gloss paint into a satin finish.

Will matte PPF affect the colour of my vehicle?

No. The film is translucent, so the colour underneath is preserved exactly. On factory matte paint it maintains the existing finish, and on gloss paint it changes the sheen to satin without altering the colour itself.

Can a Stealth conversion be reversed?

Yes. The film can be professionally removed without damaging the paint underneath, which returns the car to its original gloss finish. This is what makes a Stealth conversion a non-permanent alternative to a satin respray.
