Tesla PPF and ceramic coating do different jobs

Stone chips tend to collect across the front and lower sides of a Tesla. The bumper, bonnet, front wings, sills and mirror caps take the brunt of road debris, which is why XPEL paint protection film usually begins with the most vulnerable front panels rather than the entire car. It creates a clear, self-healing urethane barrier that absorbs stone-chip impacts and helps prevent scratches and road wear while preserving the original paint underneath.

A Gtechniq ceramic coating provides a different type of protection. It will not stop stone chips, but it creates a durable, hydrophobic surface that helps resist bird lime, tree sap, road salt and everyday contamination. It also enhances gloss and makes the car considerably easier to clean and maintain. Many Tesla owners therefore combine the two: XPEL PPF across the high-impact areas, Gtechniq ceramic coating on the remaining paintwork and Gtechniq Halo over the film. Every car is inspected and prepared first, with paint correction carried out where necessary

Tesla Model Y converted from gloss to satin with XPEL Stealth paint protection film

XPEL Stealth

Transform your Tesla with XPEL Stealth PPF

XPEL Stealth is a satin-finish paint protection film that transforms the appearance of every panel it covers while protecting the paint beneath against stone chips, road debris and light scratches.

Because the satin finish is created by the film rather than a respray, the original gloss paint remains protected underneath and the conversion can be reversed through professional film removal. XPEL Stealth can cover the whole car or selected panels, with Gtechniq Halo available as an optional upgrade for enhanced water repellency and easier maintenance.

How we protect your Tesla

Protection is only as good as the surface beneath it. Every Tesla is inspected and prepared at our studio before protection is applied. Where PPF is selected, film patterns are computer-cut on site using XPEL DAP rather than cut on the vehicle.

01

Assessment

Paint condition, mileage and how the car is used, so the right level of protection is recommended.

02

Preparation

Safe wash, chemical decontamination and machine polishing where the paint needs it — never more than necessary.

03

Installation

XPEL film applied with computer-cut patterns, with edges wrapped and tucked wherever possible. Gtechniq coating is then applied where selected.

04

Final inspection

Finish checked under inspection lighting, coatings allowed to cure where fitted, and the car handed back with aftercare guidance.

Tesla paint protection FAQs

How much does PPF cost for a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y?

Prices are £495 + VAT for the front bumper alone, £1,400 + VAT for Full Frontal coverage, £1,900 + VAT for our most requested Performance package and £3,600 + VAT for the full car.

These prices apply to both the Model 3 and Model Y. Individual panels and bespoke coverage can also be quoted.

How much does ceramic coating cost for a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y?

Tesla ceramic coating starts from £540 + VAT for a Model 3 and £580 + VAT for a Model Y. This includes paintwork preparation, a gloss-enhancement machine polish and Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light with a five-year manufacturer’s guarantee.
The final price depends on the condition of the paintwork and the level of correction required. Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra, with a nine-year manufacturer’s guarantee, is also available as an upgrade.

Which areas of a Tesla are most likely to chip?

On UK roads the front bumper, bonnet, front wings, sills and mirror caps take the most damage, particularly if you cover motorway and A-road miles.

That is why coverage usually starts at the front of the car and scales up from there, rather than beginning with the whole vehicle.

Can paint protection film change a gloss Tesla to satin?

Yes. XPEL Stealth is a satin-finish paint protection film that transforms gloss paintwork into a consistent satin appearance while protecting it against stone chips, road debris and light scratches. Because the finish is created by the film, the original gloss paint remains protected underneath and the conversion is reversible.

See the Model Y we converted in our portfolio.

Does a brand-new Tesla need machine polishing?

A new Tesla can arrive with transport contamination, adhesive residue, delivery-centre wash marks, haze or minor paint defects.

We only carry out the level of polishing required to refine the finish and prepare it correctly, avoiding unnecessary correction on new paintwork.

Should I choose ceramic coating or paint protection film?

Ceramic coating enhances gloss, improves chemical resistance and makes routine washing easier, but it does not prevent stone chips.

Paint protection film provides a physical, self-healing barrier against stone chips, road debris and light scratches. The best choice depends on how the vehicle will be used and the areas most at risk.

How long will the work take?

A ceramic-coating-only package usually takes one to two days, allowing time for preparation, application and initial curing. Paint protection film and combination packages may require several days depending on the vehicle and coverage selected.

We will confirm the expected completion time when providing your quotation.

What warranties are included?

Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light is backed by a five-year manufacturer’s Guarantee, while Crystal Serum Ultra is backed by a nine-year guarantee. XPEL paint protection film is backed by a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty.

Registration, maintenance, inspection requirements, terms and exclusions apply to each product.

Do you protect Teslas for customers in Bath and Bristol?

We regularly protect Model 3 and Model Y for customers across the area, with paint protection film, ceramic coating and combined packages available.
