New car protection for a Miami Blue Porsche 991.2 GT3
This 2017 Porsche 991.2 GT3 in Miami Blue came to our Wiltshire studio from new for our new car protection detail, with SunTek Ultra paint protection film and Gtechniq coatings over the top. A GT3 in a paint-to-sample colour is a car owners intend to keep and to drive, which is exactly the combination protection is for.
Preparation from new
A new car is not a clean car: transport, storage and the handover wash all leave marks, and film and coatings seal in whatever is underneath them. The GT3 was safely washed and fully decontaminated, and the paint refined before any protection went on, so what was locked in was the finish the car should have left the factory with.
Paint protection film
Film is the only protection that physically stops a stone chip rather than making the paint easier to wash, which matters more on a GT3 than on most cars because they get used as intended. This one was covered in SunTek Ultra; our paint protection film work today is done in XPEL Ultimate Plus, with patterns computer-cut on site rather than cut on the vehicle and edges wrapped and tucked wherever the panel allows. Coverage options for Porsche are set out on our Porsche paint protection page.
Gtechniq coatings
Film still needs washing, so Gtechniq coatings went over the top of it and across the remaining paint. The coating adds a hard, chemically resistant and strongly water-repellent layer, so the car sheds water and road grime, stays cleaner between washes and is far less likely to pick up marks during them.
