New car detail with XPEL PPF and Gtechniq coatings on a BMW M2 Competition
This 2018 BMW M2 Competition came to our Wiltshire studio from new for a new car detail, with XPEL Ultimate Plus paint protection film on the panels that take the damage and Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra over everything else. A dark metallic on an M2 looks superb and hides nothing, so the work was about starting the car off right rather than correcting it later.
Preparation from new
Film and coatings both seal in whatever is underneath them, so the car was given a full exterior decontamination followed by a single-stage machine polish before any protection went on. On a dark colour that step is what separates protected paint from protected delivery marks.
The Performance PPF package in XPEL Ultimate Plus
XPEL Ultimate Plus was installed as our Performance PPF package: the complete front end, the side skirts, the A-pillars, the leading edge of the roof and the luggage area, which covers everything the road throws forward and everything you catch yourself loading the boot. The film is self-healing, so light marks in its surface disappear with heat, and it carries a 10-year warranty against yellowing and peeling. Patterns are computer-cut on site rather than cut on the vehicle, with edges wrapped and tucked wherever the panel allows. Coverage options for M cars are on our BMW paint protection page.
Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra and EXO v4
All the remaining paintwork was protected with Crystal Serum Ultra, the hardest coating in the Gtechniq range and one only accredited detailers can fit, topped with EXO v4 for a slick, strongly water-repellent surface. Glass, wheels and calipers were treated as well, so the whole car is easier to keep clean rather than just the panels. See the range on our ceramic coating page.
