New car detail with XPEL paint protection film on a BMW M2 Competition
This BMW M2 Competition came to our Wiltshire studio from new for our new car detail, with our Performance XPEL paint protection film package and Titan ceramic coatings. Protecting a car at this stage is straightforward in a way it never is later: the paint is at its best, so the job is keeping it there rather than putting it back.
Preparation from new
A new car is not a clean car. Transport, storage and the handover wash all leave something behind, and film and coatings seal in whatever is underneath them. The M2 was safely washed and fully decontaminated first, wheels removed so the faces and barrels could be cleaned and coated properly, and the paint refined before any protection was applied.
XPEL paint protection film
The car was fitted with our Performance PPF package: the full frontal coverage of bumper, bonnet, front wings, mirror caps and headlights, plus the A-pillars, sills, lower doors and luggage area. That combination covers everything the road throws at a car and everything you catch yourself when loading it. XPEL film is self-healing, so light marks in its surface disappear with heat, and it carries a 10-year warranty against yellowing and peeling. Patterns are computer-cut on site rather than cut on the vehicle, with edges wrapped and tucked wherever the panel allows. Coverage options for M cars are on our BMW paint protection page.
Ceramic coatings, wheels included
The remaining paintwork was protected with Titan ceramic coatings, and the wheels were coated off the car so the barrels were done as well as the faces. A coating adds a hard, strongly water-repellent layer, so brake dust and road grime release far more easily and washing is less likely to put marks back into the paint.
