Two-stage machine polishing and ceramic coating on a BMW M4 CS
This 2018 BMW M4 CS came into our Wiltshire studio in San Merino Blue for a two-stage machine polish and long-term ceramic protection. A dark metallic blue is one of the least forgiving colours there is: the flake gives the panels real depth in good light, and that same light picks out every swirl mark and wash scratch. The paint was corrected first, then protected with Titan ceramic coatings.
Two-stage machine polishing
The car was safely washed and fully decontaminated before any machine work started, so nothing bonded to the paint could be dragged across the surface during polishing. The paintwork was then machine polished in two stages, a cutting stage to remove the swirls and finer scratches left by previous washing, followed by a refining stage to bring back clarity and gloss. Two-stage paint correction is the level most cars of this age need: enough to transform how the paint reads in daylight, without removing more clear coat than necessary.
Ceramic coating
Correction only lasts as long as the way the car is washed afterwards, which is why the finish was sealed with a ceramic coating. A coating adds a hard, chemically resistant and strongly water-repellent layer over the corrected paint, so the car stays cleaner between washes and washing itself is far less likely to put the swirls back. This M4 CS was protected with the Titan range; our ceramic coating packages today are built around the Gtechniq range.
