Machine polishing, XPEL film and Gtechniq ceramic coating on an Aston Martin Vanquish S
This 2016 Aston Martin Vanquish S came to our Wiltshire studio in Onyx Black for a two-stage machine polish, XPEL paint protection film to the complete front end and side skirts, and Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light over the top. Solid black is the hardest colour of all to keep looking right: nothing hides in it, so it rewards correction and punishes careless washing more than any other finish.
Two-stage machine polishing
The car was safely washed and fully decontaminated, then machine polished in two stages: a cutting stage to remove the swirl marks and finer scratches left by previous washing, followed by a refining stage to bring the gloss back. On black paint the difference is immediate, because every light source in the room shows exactly what the surface is doing. Paint correction always comes before protection, since film and coatings seal in whatever is underneath them.
XPEL film to the front end and sills
Film went on the complete front end and the side skirts, which is where a GT car of this shape collects stone chips and scuffs. XPEL film is self-healing, so light marks in its surface disappear with heat, and it carries a 10-year warranty against yellowing and peeling. Patterns are computer-cut on site rather than cut on the vehicle, with edges wrapped and tucked wherever the panel allows. Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light
The corrected paint and the film were both finished with Crystal Serum Light. The coating adds a hard, chemically resistant and strongly water-repellent layer, so the Vanquish sheds water and road grime and stays cleaner between washes — which matters most on black, where the washing itself is what puts the swirls back.
