XPEL paint protection film and ceramic coatings on a BMW G80 M3 Competition
This 2021 BMW G80 M3 Competition came to our Wiltshire studio for a single-stage machine polish, XPEL paint protection film and Titan ceramic coatings. Protecting a new M car properly means correcting it first, because film and coatings both lock in whatever is underneath them.
Preparation and a single-stage polish
The car was decontaminated and given a single-stage machine polish to clear the delivery marks and light hazing that almost every new car arrives with. That step is what separates protected paint from protected transport marks, and it is far easier to do before the film goes on than to unpick afterwards.
Where the film went, and how it was fitted
Film was installed to the complete front end, the side skirts, the lower door sections and the rear bumper sections. The gallery shows the parts of the job that matter and rarely get photographed: mirror caps taken off and wrapped on the bench, headlights covered, film worked into the A-pillar and around the vents, wheels off so the arches and sills could be reached properly. The film is self-healing, so light marks in its surface disappear with heat, and it carries a 10-year warranty against yellowing and peeling. It takes the stone chips, scratches, scuffs, bird lime, road debris and weather that would otherwise land on the paint. Coverage options across the M range are on our BMW paint protection page.
Titan ceramic coatings on paint, wheels and film
Titan ceramic coatings were then applied over the paint and film, and the wheels were taken off and coated front and back along with the calipers, so brake dust lifts off rather than baking into the finish. A ceramic coating is what makes routine washing so much easier: dirt has less to hold on to, water sheets off instead of sitting, and the car comes clean without aggressive chemicals or hard contact.
