Full-car XPEL Ultimate Plus paint protection film on a Mercedes-AMG GT C
This 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster in Brilliant Blue came to our Wiltshire studio for full-car XPEL Ultimate Plus paint protection film. Brilliant Blue is a deep metallic that looks superb clean and shows every chip once the road has had a go at it, so the owner wanted the whole car covered rather than just the nose.
What full coverage actually means
Every painted panel on the car was filmed, not just the ones facing forward. That long AMG bonnet, the wings, the doors and sills, the rear quarters and the boot lid all went under film, and the work extends into the places people forget: around the fuel filler, behind the door handles, along the shut lines. Edges were wrapped and tucked wherever the panel allows, so there is no line sitting in the middle of a panel waiting to collect dirt.
What the film protects against
Ultimate Plus takes the stone chips, scratches, scuffs, bird lime, road debris and harsh weather that would otherwise land on the paint. It is self-healing, so light marks in the film’s own surface close up with heat rather than staying there, and it carries a 10-year warranty against yellowing and peeling. Patterns are computer-cut on site rather than cut on the vehicle, which keeps a blade away from the paint entirely.
Wheels and preparation
Film seals in whatever is underneath it, so the car was decontaminated and the paint prepared before anything was laid on. The AMG wheels were coated with Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour, so brake dust sits on the surface instead of baking into the lacquer. Film and ceramic coating work well together on a car like this: the film takes the impacts, the coating makes the whole car easier to wash.
