BMW M8 Competition – XPEL Ultimate Plus paint protection film
This 2022 BMW M8 Competition came to our Hilperton studio in a deep red metallic for XPEL Ultimate Plus film across its high-impact areas: the complete front end, the side skirts, the rear wheel impact areas and the carbon fibre roof.
Where the film went, and why those panels
The front end takes everything thrown up by the car in front, which is why it gets covered first on almost every job. The side skirts and the areas behind the front wheels collect the grit the car throws at itself — damage owners often do not notice until it has been happening for a year. The roof is the one people skip, and on an M8 Competition it is exposed carbon fibre: expensive, awkward to put right and worth covering. The gallery shows the film going on wet, panel by panel, and then the finished car with nothing to give the edges away.
Self-healing, with a 10-year warranty
XPEL Ultimate Plus is self-healing, so light marks in the film’s own surface close up with heat rather than staying there, and it carries a 10-year warranty against yellowing and peeling. Day to day it takes the stone chips, scratches, scuffs, bird lime, road debris and weather that would otherwise be landing on the paint.
A colour worth keeping intact
A deep red metallic like this one is among the most rewarding colours to keep clean and the least forgiving when it is not. A stone chip in a dark, saturated paint reads as a bright spot rather than a blemish, and it draws the eye from across a car park. Film is how you stop that happening in the first place, rather than paying to put it right afterwards.
