XPEL Ultimate Plus paint protection film on a BMW M5 Competition
This 2021 BMW M5 Competition in San Merino Blue came to our Wiltshire studio for XPEL Ultimate Plus paint protection film. San Merino is a deep metallic that rewards clean paint and shows every chip, and an M5 covers serious motorway miles, so the owner wanted the panels that take the damage covered before the car started collecting it.
Where the film went
Film was installed across the complete front end, the side skirts, all four doors and the rear bumper. That covers everything the road throws forward, the stone chips that come up off the front wheels and along the sills, and the scuffs the rear bumper picks up from luggage and kerbs. Taking the film across the full doors rather than stopping at a partial panel means there is no edge line sitting in the middle of the car’s flank.
Why XPEL Ultimate Plus
Ultimate Plus is a self-healing film, so light marks in its own surface close up with heat rather than staying there, and it carries a 10-year warranty against yellowing and peeling. Patterns are computer-cut on site rather than cut on the car, and the edges are wrapped and tucked wherever the panel allows, so a good install is one you have to look for. Preparation before the film
Film seals in whatever is underneath it, so the car was decontaminated and the paint prepared before anything was laid on. On a dark metallic that step is the difference between protected paint and protected wash marks. Paintwork outside the filmed areas can be finished with a ceramic coating so the whole car behaves the same way when it is washed.
