San Marino Blue BMW M3 Touring (G81) – full PPF and ceramic coating package
This 2024 BMW M3 Touring came into our Hilperton studio in San Marino Blue for our new car protection detail. The owner wanted the fullest specification available — complete XPEL paint protection film coverage, then Gtechniq coatings over the top of it.
XPEL Ultimate Plus inside and out
We fitted XPEL Ultimate Plus paint protection film across every painted exterior panel, and to the painted and carbon fibre surfaces inside the car as well. Ultimate Plus is self-healing, so light wash marks and swirls lift back out with heat. On San Marino Blue — a deep metallic that shows a stone chip from several feet away — that self-healing top layer does a great deal of quiet work over the life of the car.
Gloss black roof converted with Stek DYNOcarbon
The gloss black roof was converted to a carbon fibre appearance using Stek DYNOcarbon film, so it now reads as exposed weave against the blue while picking up a protective layer at the same time. It is a conversion we have repeated since on a Black Sapphire M3 CS Touring; on a Laguna Seca Blue CS Touring the factory carbon roof went under clear film instead.
Gtechniq Halo and C5 Wheel Armour
With the film down, the car was coated in Gtechniq Halo — a ceramic coating made specifically for use over PPF — to keep the finish slick and maintenance straightforward. The wheels came off the car so the faces and the barrels could both be coated properly, along with the brake calipers, using Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour. Coated wheels are far easier to live with: brake dust rinses off rather than baking on.
