McLaren 600LT – full-body XPEL paint protection film
This black McLaren 600LT came to our Hilperton studio for full paint protection film coverage. On a Longtail — a car built low, wide and around exposed carbon — partial coverage leaves too much of the expensive surface area unprotected, so every exterior panel went under film.
Full coverage, wrapped edges, no visible film lines
XPEL self-healing paint protection film was fitted across the whole exterior: the nose and front bumper, bonnet, front wings, doors, the carbon sills and lower panels, the roof, the rear quarters and the rear deck. Each panel was installed wet and the film wrapped into the edges rather than trimmed on the surface, which is what keeps the finished car free of visible film lines — the gallery shows the process panel by panel, and then the car with nothing to give the film away.
Why a 600LT earns full coverage
The Longtail’s aero puts vulnerable surfaces exactly where debris lands: the front splitter sits inches off the road, the carbon sills run the length of the car at kerb height, and the rear deck takes everything thrown up behind the top-exit exhausts. Those are also the most expensive panels on the car to put right. The film is self-healing, so light marks in its surface lift out with heat, and it is optically clear, so the black paint and the carbon weave beneath read exactly as they did before.
Black paint, kept sharp
Black is the least forgiving colour there is — it shows every chip, every swirl and every wash mark under studio lights. Full film coverage takes that pressure off, because the surface being marked is the film rather than the paint, and the film can heal.
