Two-stage machine polish and ceramic coating on a McLaren 570S Spider
This 2018 McLaren 570S Spider in McLaren Orange came to our Wiltshire studio for a two-stage machine polish followed by a Titan Zeus ceramic coating. Orange is one of the least forgiving colours to own: it has a heavy metallic flake that looks superb when the paint is clean and turns to a flat, grey haze the moment swirls get into it.
Correcting the paint
The car was washed and decontaminated, then polished in two stages: cutting first to remove the swirls and wash marks, refining afterwards so the finish was left sharp rather than hazy. On a carbon tub supercar the paint is thin and hand-finished, so the work is measured and taken panel by panel rather than rushed with an aggressive compound. Under the studio lights afterwards the orange reads as a clean, even flake instead of a web of fine scratches.
Titan Zeus ceramic coating
Correction only pays for itself if the finish is then sealed and washed properly, so the corrected paint was protected with Titan Zeus. A ceramic coating gives the paint a hard, slick surface that dirt struggles to hold on to and water sheets off, which means the car comes clean with far less contact and far less risk of putting the swirls straight back in. Owners keeping a car like this long term often add paint protection film to the nose and sills as well.
