A Jet Black Metallic 991.2 GT3, protected from new
This 2017 Porsche 991.2 GT3 came to our Hilperton studio in Jet Black Metallic, on centre-lock wheels with the yellow calipers that mark out the ceramic brake option. It was booked in from new for our Performance PPF package in XPEL Ultimate Plus and a Gtechniq new car protection detail — and for one job none of the other cars in this section asked for: fitting the yellow Porsche script down each sill.
Wheels off before anything else
Nothing went near the paint until the wheels were off the car. A centre-lock 911 is not a rattle-gun job — the nut comes off with a dedicated socket on a calibrated torque wrench, and goes back on to Porsche’s figure with fresh assembly paste on the splines. With each wheel away from the arch, the barrel and the inner face could be cleaned and sealed properly rather than reached at arm’s length between the spokes, and the ceramic calipers were cleaned and protected out in the open.
The arches and shut lines were steamed out at the same time. On a car that will spend the rest of its life with film and coating sealing those edges, anything left behind now stays behind for years.
XPEL Ultimate Plus across the front
The film went on as part of our Performance PPF package, covering the panels at the sharp end of the car — the ones that meet the road first and collect the stone chips. XPEL Ultimate Plus is self-healing: light marks from wash mitts and road grit close up again with heat, so the paint underneath stays as it left the factory. XPEL back it with a ten-year warranty against yellowing, cracking and peeling. There is more on how we fit it on our paint protection film page.
Gtechniq coatings over film and paint alike
Film handles the front. The roof, the doors, the rear three-quarters and the wing are still bare paint — and on a black metallic that is the paint people look at hardest, because black shows every swirl a poor wash puts into it. Gtechniq coatings went over the whole car, film included, so every panel sheds water and releases dirt the same way and there is no visible line where the film stops. The wheels and calipers were coated too, which is the part that keeps paying back every time brake dust rinses off instead of needing a scrub. Our ceramic coating page covers the products in detail.
The decals went on last
The yellow Porsche script down each sill went on once everything underneath had settled. Each one arrives on a backing sheet and gets dry-fitted first — taped along its top edge as a hinge, lined up against the shut line and the sill return, stood back from and checked, and only then squeegeed down before the transfer paper is peeled away. Get the hinge wrong and the decal is scrap, so the measuring takes longer than the fitting. The 4.0 script on the rear wing endplates went on the same way.
