Machine polishing, XPEL PPF and ceramic coatings on a Mercedes-AMG GT
This 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT in Brilliant Blue came to our Wiltshire studio for a two-stage machine polish, XPEL paint protection film and Titan ceramic coatings. Correcting first and protecting afterwards is the order that matters: film and coatings both lock in whatever is underneath them.
Two stages of machine polishing
The car was decontaminated and then machine polished in two stages, cutting to remove the swirls and wash marks first and refining afterwards so the finish was left sharp rather than hazy. On a dark metallic blue that step is what separates deep, wet-looking paint from paint that reads grey the moment it is out in the sun.
XPEL film to the front end, skirts and doors
Film was installed to the complete front end, the side skirts and the doors, which covers everything the road throws forward plus the stone chips that come up off the front wheels and along the flanks. The film is self-healing, so light marks in its surface disappear with heat, and it carries a 10-year warranty against yellowing and peeling. It takes the stone chips, scratches, scuffs, bird lime, road debris and weather that would otherwise land on the paint. Coverage options are set out on our Mercedes paint protection page.
Titan ceramic coatings over the top
Titan ceramic coatings were then applied over the paint and film, which is what makes routine washing so much easier: dirt has less to hold on to, water sheets off rather than sitting, and the car comes clean without needing aggressive chemicals.
